About

I'm Rushikesh (Rushi), a Shopify Frontend Engineer and Team Lead based in India. I work remotely with US e-commerce brands.

I lead a frontend team that builds custom Shopify themes, headless storefronts on Hydrogen and Remix, and custom Shopify apps. I care about clean architecture, performance, and building systems that are easy to evolve. Not just getting things shipped.

I'm self-taught. Started with HTML and CSS, got curious about how websites actually work, and kept pulling the thread.

In 2019, while still in college, I started Divspace, a developer community in Nashik. We hosted the city's largest developer event, built open-source tools, and created a space for developers to learn together. It didn't become a business, but it taught me things no classroom could. How to build something from zero, when to pivot, and why market timing matters more than ideas.

After Divspace, I joined Coalition Technologies as a frontend developer working on Shopify. Over four years, I went from writing my first Liquid template to leading a team of engineers building storefronts for US brands. I've shipped 15+ custom themes, led OS 1.0 to 2.0 migrations, and built a Shop Mini app that ranked #2 on Shopify's Shop platform.

In 2023, I was recognized as Coalition's Top Frontend Developer for producing the highest revenue ($117K) of the year.

I like to keep things simple, in code and in life. Good software isn't about using every tool available. It's about choosing the right ones and using them well.

I believe the best engineers understand the business, not just the codebase. Every theme I build, every performance optimization I make, every architecture decision I take. It all connects back to whether it helps the brand grow.

I'm inspired by people who care about craft. Steve Jobs said "design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works." That applies to code too.

The intersection of AI and software engineering interests me. Not just using AI tools, but understanding how AI changes what it means to build software.

I recently published a position paper on biomimetic AI architecture (BFAI), exploring how brain-inspired design and mathematical structures could make AI systems more energy-efficient. I also write a weekly series on LinkedIn (AI Talks) where I share what I'm learning about AI agents, coding workflows, and the evolving role of engineers.

I think the developers who thrive in the next decade won't be the ones who avoid AI or the ones who blindly adopt it. They'll be the ones who understand it deeply enough to make better decisions about when to use it and when not to.

I try to spend at least one screen-free day every weekend (still working on that). I'm into fitness, clear thinking, and occasionally disappearing into a good conversation about where technology is heading.

I'm always open to interesting conversations. Could be about Shopify, headless commerce, AI, or just building good software.
